HUNTER HYDROGEN TASKFORCE

HUNTER HYDROGEN TASKFORCE

Newcastle and the Hunter are well positioned to harness the tremendous opportunities created by the emerging global market for hydrogen and its many applications. The Hunter Hydrogen Taskforce (the Taskforce) identified this significant opportunity for the region and developed the Hunter Hydrogen Infrastructure Masterplan (the Masterplan) on behalf of the Committee for the Hunter with the objective to position the region, attract investment and drive economic activity into the future.

The Taskforce works across sectors in the Greater Hunter region to achieve the shared long-term vision for a thriving hydrogen economy and converts State and Federal ambitions into targeted actions. The Taskforce brings together entities and organisations with essential roles in the planning, construction and operation of hydrogen projects and shared infrastructure that collectively make up the ‘Hunter Hydrogen Hub’.

Objectives:

  • Identify shared advocacy priorities
  • Utilise opportunities for collaboration
  • Develop initiatives to advance research, new technologies and supply chains.
  • Promote and support job creation, economic diversification, innovation and education.

The Taskforce is led by Chair Alex Dronoff and Deputy Chair Professor Alan Broadfoot. Alex Dronoff is a senior executive with over 30 years’ experience in the renewable energy, oil and gas industries such as Shell and BOC. Alex is a pioneer in the development of renewable hydrogen initiatives including contribution to federal and state strategies. The leadership team’s combined expertise, experience and passion will be advantageous to the Hunter Hydrogen Taskforce and will strengthen and empower the region to drive the transition to clean energy and the opportunities this presents for our economy.
