Publications The Committee For The Hunter presents a response to the Williamtown Special Activation Precinct draft. This response recognises the advantages to implementing the Precinct, whilst also making suggestions on how the land can be used effectively, as well as raising the level of ambition to harness the project’s full potential. July 2022 In 2020 the Youth Committee launched the Youth Voice Hunter survey, to better understand the aspirations, perspectives and ideas of young people. The survey was open to youth across the ten local government areas of the Hunter of Cessnock, Dungog, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, MidCoast, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Singleton, and Upper Hunter. We are pleased to share the results with government, regional leaders, stakeholders and communities to help give young people a louder voice and a bigger role in shaping the Hunter’s future. We present an ambitious vision to triple the number of jobs currently occupied by coal mining and energy generation (collectively, coal industries) in a range of sectors over the next decade, including jobs in industries of national priority. We identify the actions and investments that will unlock this vision and address issues that are getting in the way. These recommendations have been informed by evidence, expert advice and consultation. It is a plan for the Hunter, by the people and enterprises of the Hunter.
